Champions have dedicated Goal Sabbaticals.
Goal Sabbatical (GS) is when you’re away from ’striving’ and ‘to-do’ lists. It is the time for de-cluttering your brain’s inbox. GS is your action of refueling to achieve your goals.
GS actions include prayer, meditation, reading, listening to music, and exercise, to name a few. I don’t include the movies or television because that is counter-productive to the desired effect.
Others may perceive Goal Sabbatical as selfish time or a waste of time. But, winners know that greatness requires self-restoration each day.
A great resource is The Relaxation Response, by Dr. Herbert Benson. In it, Benson gives a step-by-step meditative plan that you can do on your own for 10-20 minutes each day.
I take mini-breaks to lie down on the couch in my office with my eyes closed for 5 minutes if I plan to be working longer than 60-90 minutes. Additionally, I pray every day and make working out part of my regular routine.
